Nunes & King: CIA may be manipulating intelligence for political purposes, creating "house of cards" |
Aaron Rossiter | 12/14/16 | 10:54 PM Fox News reported earlier that the CIA refused to provide a briefer to the House Intelligence Committee, the highest ranking committee in government with jurisdiction over the CIA. House Intelligence Committee chairmen Nunes had requested the briefing in light of the fact that current news reports regarding Russia's alleged political intervention conflict with information the committee had received from intelligence agencies previously.
According to Fox News, Nunes said that the refusal by the CIA was "unacceptable" because "intransigence in sharing intelligence with Congress can enable the manipulation of intelligence for political purposes." The conflict Nunes is referring to became apparent when the Washington Post reported last Friday, based on ANONYMOUS SOURCES, that the CIA had concluded that Russia intended to help Trump when it interfered in the election. Congressman Peter King agreed with Nunes's condemnation of the CIA on the Kelly File Wednesday night but went a bit further. He suggested that the CIA could be erecting a political "House of Cards," or complex straw man, |
with which to cast doubt on the legitimacy of Trump's election. He said that the CIA has an "obligation" to come before Congress, presumably at the now canceled briefing that was set for tomorrow, and tell them about any new information it has found to support such a politically charged, anonymously sourced, Washington Post allegation. According to the Daily Caller, retired Army intelligence officer Tony Shaffer said that he has heard directly from former CIA officials that "Brennan is doing this out of loyalty to President Obama." Shaffer continued, "It's called information operations, information warfare, and that's what I believe is going on."
