NBC's political guerrilla war and how Trump can win it

Trump may have to go to extraordinary lengths to defeat Hillary

NBC declares political war and the role of the press

NBC adopted a ruthless political strategy and executed it so as to choose our next president. Why is that partisan hostile act so damaging to our republic? Consider the following.

Journalistic organizations have a duty to inform the public. The First Amendment protects the press because of the critical need to hold power spheres accountable and achieve and preserve transparency. Anti-Federalists objected to the new constitution because rights of individuals and the press were not protected. The First Amendment was proposed to ease their concerns about an out of control federal government seizing power without accountability.

Implicit to the functioning of the First Amendment is an ever examining and transparent press. When the press strategically withholds information during the electoral process, only to reveal that information at a time designed to destroy a candidate, the bubbling issues that need public resolution go ignored.

The Second Amendment itself is on the ballot this election. (See Heller dissent). Obamacare, America's role in the world, how we handle Russia, vastly different tax approaches, and numerous other enormous policy considerations have been eclipsed by unproven allegations of sexual misconduct by Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton and her supporters may have violated the law as evidenced by leaked emails and Project Veritas videos, but the media ignores those questions, preferring to focus almost exclusively on unfounded allegations against Trump.

The First Amendment has been turned on its head. It now serves as a bulwark against accountability of a ubiquitous media leviathan capable of turning an election with careful manipulation of electronic information. When government accountability and transparency are discouraged by the critical free press, our system becomes unstable as the partisan tensions remain unsoothed by fair elections and are left to fester into rancor, hostility and potentially revolution.

NBC is guilty of sabotaging the possibility of holding a legitimate presidential election in 2016. Considering the stakes of this election, which the dissent in the Heller case underscores if nothing else, sabotage of an election at such a critical time in our nation's history could prove devastating for our health or even survival as a nation.

Legitimacy only exists where the public accepts the authority of the one who governs them. NBC made sure that Hillary Clinton will never hold such legitimacy. She is currently leading in the polls due to NBC sitting on explosive information, information so powerful that it alone can turn an election. NBC's actions resemble the behavior of a hostile actor, a foreign government bent on sewing disunity and chaos in the American system, not an organization that is protected constitutionally in our system because of the critical nature of its role in promoting transparency.

NBC, in an act of pure electoral sabotage, withheld the Access Hollywood tape from the American public. Billy Bush is said to have bragged about having the tape during the Olympics. Because we now he didn't acquire it while in Rio, we know that NBC potentially was aware of the tape as early as August 5th, when the Olympics began.

The Republican National Convention had ended only two weeks before, on July 21st. Giving Bush and NBC the benefit of the doubt, let's assume that the date everyone knew about the footage was August 21st, when the Olympics ended.

If NBC had released the tape when it discovered it, Donald Trump would have had at least six additional weeks to address the accusations that soon followed by alleged sexual assault victims. If Trump did not satisfy the public on those questions, he would have had the option of dropping out and the GOP could have replaced him on the ticket.

NBC clearly waited until it was no longer feasible to print ballots for a replacement to release this story. Chuck Todd Tweeted on October 7th, the day the tape broke, that the GOP had researched when they needed to replace Trump if they were going to, and it had to be September 1st. Clearly NBC had researched the question before releasing the tape. Why else would Chuck Todd tweet that on the same day the tapes came out?

Also, I am being charitable about the dates which NBC probably learned of the tape. NBC very likely had knowledge of this tape prior to the Olympics. They had the tape in their possession since 2005. To assume that they hadn't ordered the examination of any such footage is probably incorrect. But even if they didn't know before August 21st, 2016, we know they knew by that date.

In addition to strategically withholding explosive information, NBC and its liberal media partners are now doing their best to hide any new information learned from Wikileaks. While the release of private emails may seem unsavory, it is the sort of thing the press would normally relish. Certainly if the emails were those of Republicans, that is all you would see in the press. Because these emails are so damning of the Democrats and Hillary Clinton, the major media are literally ignoring them to the greatest extent possible.

This technologically imposing press has opted for hostile political action in its manipulation of electronic information, sometimes disclosing it, sometimes hiding or even distorting it. Recall when CNN deliberately left out relevant portions of a statement Hillary made about the pipe bombings in New York City just to avoid making her look bad.

This electronic media manipulation is done in all of its various forms to promote the fundamental change of America into a western socialist democracy where the corporate media has power unequaled by any other corporation. This will occur when Citizens United is overturned.

The crusading leftist media is trying to seize power. The stakes for freedom could not be higher.

Can Trump recover?

It's anyone's guess whether Trump can recover from the hit he has taken from NBC. Yesterday I wrote that I think he can, but it will be a challenge. The tape alone might have been enough to destroy him, adding the procession of women claiming he has assaulted them, he may be in a trap he can't escape from. Let's examine this.

Trump needs to win Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Iowa, Nevada, Arizona, Maine's second district, all five of Nebraska's electoral votes and one of the following states; New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Colorado or Wisconsin. Right now, his best shot is in New Hampshire. The current poll averages in those states follow.

In the must-win states, Trump is either leading or within three points. Trump trails in Florida by 3.0, Ohio by 0.9, North Carolina by 2.2 and Nevada by 3.0. Trump leads in Arizona by 2.0 and Iowa by 3.0. As you can see, these states are all very close. Even though Trump is trailing, if he has one good week he would likely take the lead or come close in each of these states.

That leaves the last state he needs, all of which of he trails in by at least 4.5 points. Trump trails in Pennsylvania by 5.8, Wisconsin by 5.5, Colorado by 6.0 and New Hampshire by 4.5 points.

What damaging tapes are left?

According to harsh #NeverTrumper Rick Wilson, the media is still withholding highly damaging information that will destroy Trump's campaign.

The Democratic and media strategy has targeted Trump on a personal level. The issues have largely been ignored in the public debate. Because of the personal nature of the attacks, if Trump is hit with damaging opposition research again, or if he cannot recover from the recent hit by NBC, he still has a political strategy that can change this race back to the Republicans' favor.

Trump possesses the ability to change this race in a moment. Because Hilary Clinton is so unpopular, and many Americans think she has committed criminal acts, it would not take much to defeat her.

How Trump defeats the liberal media army: Fight fire with fire

NBC engaged in guerrilla political tactics. The only way to defeat such tactics comes in utilizing one's own guerrilla political tactics. What is Trump's trump card?

If, and only if, the Trump team sees no realistic path to victory, they should do the following. Trump goes before America in a press conference and drops out of the race.

According to professor Edward Foley of the Moritz School of Law at Ohio State, Trump can withdraw from the Republican party ticket and the GOP can elevate Pence to the presidential slot. Pence would be free to choose a running mate as well. The GOP would need to explain that Donald Trump's name will appear on the ballot but he will not receive electoral votes on December 19th, when the electoral college meets. Neither the constitution nor any statute requires a formal nomination process to replace Trump. The GOP could simply publicize the fact that he is dropping out and it is done. Republican electors would be instructed to vote for Pence. The electors can publicly state their intentions to do so to alleviate any concerns Trump opponents might harbor.

Nothing prevents the GOP from implementing this plan. There are three states that require electors to vote for the person elected as president or else that elector will be replaced by an alternate elector. If all GOP electors are voting for Pence, then the plan still goes forward unaffected by those rules.

While some might consider this process a surrender to the hostile liberal press, the liberal media certainly would not. The press does not care about Trump. Their real target is conservatives and religious people. If this plan succeeded, no group of people would feel greater displeasure than the liberal press.

Trump will be viewed as the ultimate winner

While many will condemn Trump as surrendering in the short term, in the long run he will be seen as the victor. Because NBC held this tape and released it through the Washington Post to attempt to blunt it's role in the cynical political strategy only weeks before the election, Trump was put in an unwinnable situation. As he is so fond of saying, this is in fact a rigged process designed to prevent him from having any chance of winning.

By countering the guerrilla political tactics of the media with his own, he achieves victory for his movement, the movement survives, and he lives to fight another day. Many have speculated that he really wants to start a cable channel. Perhaps he could do just that as his hand picked running mate serves as president. He would be free to speak his mind without the burden of governing; that's not a bad consolation prize. There would be no shame in this outcome, but great appreciation from his supporters for beating the liberal press at their own game and begrudging respect from his opposition. That's perhaps the biggest win he could achieve.
