Obama Leans on Poor Upbringing to Dismiss Elitism Charges as ‘Silly’ - Ref's Take - Elitism does not necessarily stem from wealth. I have known quite a few elitists who are not rich and in fact live on modest means. Elitism is an attitude reflecting the deeply held belief that one has a monopoly on truth and usually manifests itself in antipathy for those who disagree. Obama's emphasis on his poor upbringing misses the point. He needs to try again or this storyline will dog him in the general election.
